Division 2 - Cardigan Res 1 v 1 Maesglas Res

Cardigan Town Reserves were looking forward to another derby match against rivals Maesglas, having beaten them 4-2 away from home on the opening game of the season,.. With Cardigan only having 3 points in the league so far, it was always going to be tough to get something out of the game. After playing well in recent games but unable to score enough goals, the confidence was high amongst the Cardigan players. With ex Maesglas and Cardigan player Phil Furney returning to Cardigan following a stint at Haverfordwest, it was the Furney brothers, Jon and Phil that played up front.
With Maesglas having the former Cardigan Reserves pacey striker Ricky Woods upfront the Cardigan defence knew they were in for a tough encounter.
With the score 0-0 at half time, it was evident that it could be anybody’s game.
Maesglas if they had taken their chances would have bagged the 3 points but this game against a solid side. Cardigan once again had some decent chances in this game, which made life difficult for the Maesglas goalkeeper.

Steffan Evans scored midway in the second half for Maesglas, and the returning Cardigan Town player Phil Furney made it 1-1 in the last 1/3 of the game.
Maesglas seemed happy with a point at the end, as Cardigan were pressing quite hard for a second goal towards the end of the game. |
